Metal-Free Restorations – Buzzards Bay, MA

Repair Your Teeth Without Marring Your Smile

For many years, metals were the go-to material for repairing damaged teeth. While gold, silver, and other metals are quite strong and can provide a high level of protection for teeth, they clash with the natural color of the dentition around them. If you are looking for a more attractive alternative to metal crowns, bridges, and fillings, visit Canal Side Family Dental. We offer metal-free restorations that can renew the function of damaged teeth without marring their appearance.

Why Choose Canal Side for Metal-Free Restorations?

What Are Metal-Free Dental Restorations?

“Metal-free restoration” is an umbrella term that applies to any dental restoration that does not contain traditional metals. Such a restoration could be a crown, bridge, inlay, onlay, or filling. A common material used to make metal-free restorations is dental porcelain. Porcelain closely resembles the look and feel of natural teeth; it even reflects light in a manner that is similar to real tooth enamel. It is often used for crowns, bridges, and other large restorations.

Metal-free fillings are usually made out of composite resin, a flexible mixture of plastic and other materials that can be shade-matched to blend in with the dentition around it.

What Are the Benefits of Metal-Free Restorations?

The most obvious benefit of metal-free restorations is that they are much more aesthetically pleasing than their traditional metal counterparts. A well-made metal-free restoration is virtually unnoticeable to onlookers, which allows our patients to maintain the most natural-looking smile possible.

The benefits of metal-free restorations do not stop there. Additional advantages include:

What Is the Process for Placing a Metal-Free Restoration?

If all you need is a filling, we will numb the tooth, remove the decayed area, and insert the tooth-colored resin. A special light hardens the resin, after which we make any necessary adjustments to the size and shape of the filling. For porcelain restorations, such as crowns and bridges, the process takes a little longer. After your dentist prepares the tooth (or teeth), we take impressions of it. Then, you will wear a temporary restoration while a dental laboratory creates your permanent one. When your permanent restoration is ready, we will verify its fit before we permanently place it in your mouth.

Do you know you will soon need a dental restoration? Do you have old metal restorations that you would like to replace? Contact Canal Side Family Dental to learn more about metal-free dentistry or to schedule an appointment.
